Shaping the future
of animal health

Does my dog have an infection?

Infection in dogs occurs when bacteria or other disease-causing agents become too much for the immune system to handle. Open wounds and cuts in the skin are prime targets for infection. The skin may become red and swollen. There may be a collection of pus, called an abscess, that forms under the skin. Infections can also affect the bones, teeth and other areas of the body.

Just like humans, dogs with infections can be treated with antibiotics. Your veterinarian can identify whether your dog is suffering from an infection and what type of treatment would be best.

Below are some antibiotics that Virbac has developed to treat infections in dogs. If you have questions about any of these products, be sure to talk with your veterinarian. As with any product you use on your pet, always listen to your veterinarian’s instructions and read the product label.
