Why does my cat keep scratching its ears?
Cats are known for being meticulous groomers that spend a good portion of their waking hours licking themselves clean. But repeated pawing at the ears probably doesn’t mean it missed a spot. Rather than good hygiene, excessive ear scratching can be a sign that something is wrong.
Other clues that your cat has an ear problem include frequent head shaking or ears that are red, swollen or foul-smelling. These may be the result of ear mites, infections or other disorders.
Below are some products that Virbac has developed to help keep cats’ ears clean and healthy. If you have questions about caring for your cat’s ears, be sure to talk with your veterinarian. As with any treatment, always listen to your veterinarian’s instructions and read the product label.
EPI-OTIC® ADVANCED Ear Cleanser
A well tolerated, efficient ear cleanser that facilitates the removal of cellular debris and excessive wax as well as the drying of the ear canal. The inclusion of monosaccharides has a soothing effect (anti-irritant) as well as limiting the bonding of microorganisms (anti-adhesive) to the skin surface. Because of its neutral pH, EPI-OTIC® Advanced Ear Cleanser should not interfere with other ear preparations.
EPI-OTIC Advanced Ear Cleanser is recommended for the routine cleansing of ears in dogs and cats or prior to the application of ear preparations.
Why should I use EPI-OTIC® Advanced Ear Cleanser?
EPI-OTIC Advanced Ear Cleanser is a non-irritating cleanser, has a neutral pH, as well as an exclusive anti-odor technology that neutralizes the unpleasant odors commonly found in otitis externa cases. It features innovative glycotechnology that inhibits yeast from adhering to the skin inside of the ears, and helps reduce the inflammatory response.
