Why do dogs get skin infections?

In truth, there may be many reasons. Sometimes, fleas and ticks are to blame. Other times, it may be bacteria or yeasts found on the skin’s surface.

If your dog has an infection, you may notice him itching, chewing at his fur, or losing patches of hair. His skin and coat may carry an unpleasant odor. You also may notice “hot spots” on your dog, which are patches of hairless, red skin that result when dogs chew at themselves.

Below are some products that Virbac has developed to treat skin infections in dogs. If you have questions about any of these treatments, be sure to talk with your veterinarian. As with any treatment, always listen to your veterinarian’s instructions and read the product label.
