Why doesn’t my dog seem like himself?

Just like people, dogs have glands and hormones that control a number of bodily functions. One very important gland is the thyroid gland, which is located under the skin at the center of the neck. Among the many jobs of the thyroid gland is to regulate metabolism. Dogs with hypothyroidism don’t produce enough thyroid hormone. As a result, they may lose their hair and become lethargic and overweight.

Another important gland is the pancreas. Part of the digestive system, the pancreas produces enzymes that help break down food. Disease affecting a dog’s pancreas can prevent the gland from producing these necessary enzymes. As a result, the dog’s body is unable to digest food and absorb the nutrients it needs.

Below are some products that Virbac has developed to treat thyroid and pancreatic conditions in dogs. If you have questions about any of these treatments, be sure to talk with your veterinarian. As with any treatment, always listen to your veterinarian’s instructions and read the product label.
