What’s gotten into—or onto—my dog?

Even the healthiest and happiest of dogs face the all too common threat of parasites. A parasite is an organism that lives and feeds off of a host (for example, your dog). Some parasites, such as fleas and ticks, live on the skin of their host. Others, primarily worms, live inside the body and can cause serious damage to organs. And mosquitoes don’t live on or in your dog, but they can still live off your dog by feeding off its blood.

Parasites can cause all kinds of problems for dogs. Some of these problems, if left untreated, can lead to serious disease or even death. Fortunately, there are many effective products designed to prevent and/or treat parasites.
