Do I need to supplement my cat’s diet?

Ideally, cats would get all the nutrition they need from the food they eat. And if your cat is perfectly healthy and eating a sufficient diet, it probably does. But there are times when cats can use a boost to their diet.

If your cat’s coat has lost its shine, it may be due to a lack of what are known as essential fatty acids. As the name suggests, these are vital to a healthy diet. Often called “good fats” in a human diet, essential fatty acids are nutrients found in fish and plants that your cat cannot produce itself. Essential fatty acids can help your cat maintain a healthy skin and coat.

If your cat is recovering from illness or surgery, a special diet that replenishes vital nutrients may be needed to help your cat return to good health. And a cat that’s constipated may benefit from a fiber supplement.
