Why does my cat keep scratching its ears?

Cats are known for being meticulous groomers that spend a good portion of their waking hours licking themselves clean. But repeated pawing at the ears probably doesn’t mean it missed a spot. Rather than good hygiene, excessive ear scratching can be a sign that something’s wrong.

Other clues that your cat has an ear problem include frequent head shaking or ears that are red, swollen, or foul smelling. These may be the result of ear mites, infections, or other disorders.

Below are some products that Virbac has developed to help keep cats’ ears clean and healthy. If you have questions about caring for your cat’s ears, be sure to talk with your veterinarian. As with any treatment, always listen to your veterinarian’s instructions and read the product label.
